Template Wizard

The Template Wizard helps you create new presentation and analysis templates as well as save an FPScript function as a template.

Before launching the wizard, you should select the object in the Object List that you want to use as a template. For an analysis template, you can also select multiple objects.

Note:   You should make sure that you select only objects with valid links. FPScript functions cannot have any links to other formulas, data sets or other objects.

In the first step you select the Template type. The default is the type that corresponds to the selected object. The Analysis option is also available, since any objects can be used for analysis templates. Next, give the new template a Name and provide a Comment. For tables and diagrams you can create static or dynamic templates. Select the appropriate option as necessary. If you subsequently use a dynamic template, then a curve or a table column or table cell is created for each selected data set.

The next step in the wizard depends on the type of template selected:

If you create an analysis template, you can specify here which of the objects of the selected object network are to be viewed as a fixed component of the template and which are to be replaced by selected objects during subsequent use of the template. In the Used as column you can specify the text to be displayed when using the template. This step only appears for the other template types if the option dynamic template was not selected on the first page. If FlexPro detected a reference to a list in the template, you can set whether you want to replace the entire list or the individual list elements when using the template in the future. For the other template types, this step appears only if they did not have the Dynamic template option checked on the first page. FlexPro creates the descriptions automatically for dynamic templates.

If you save an FPScript function as a template, here is where you enter a description and define the permitted data types and data structures for each argument. Select the option Default value for an optional argument. The default value entered is always used any time you omit the argument when subsequently calling the function in the argument list.

In the last step of the wizard, enter the location where the template should be stored. Next, check all of the information in the Summary once again before clicking Finish to close the wizard.

Note:   You can store a newly created template only in the open project database or in one of the two permanently open template databases. However, if you work with FlexPro Professional you can also copy it into a shared template database via the Organizer dialog box in order to share it with a team.
